Presentation Of Marjorie Taylor by Diana May. Induction, Player Category of the CNSA Hall of Fame

This evening I am honoured to introduce Marjorie Taylor.

Marjorie has always been involved in sports – as a teenager she played softball in her home town of Blenheim. She was a windmill pitcher and shortstop player on teams with her daughter Lou Anne as catcher, and daughter Donna playing first base. She played on the fastball team – Florence Chicks – in 1958, when they won the Ontario Championship. In 2003, the Florence Chicks were inducted into a fastball Hall of Fame.

Golf – yes, Marjorie is a great golfer as well, and has been a 6 time club champion at the Blenheim Community golf club.

Sports… all kinds…. Softball, fastball, hockey, bowling, curling, golfing and fishing … Marjorie excels in them all — and now we are honouring her for her time and talents in shuffleboard.

She started playing shuffleboard on a farm in Merlin, Ontario in 1982. She has competed in 11 International tournaments representing Canada and will make it 12 this year as she plays in Midland.

Marjorie has travelled the world to play – all over the USA, Canada, Japan and Australia. In many of these tournaments the Canadian ladies won.

She has joined fellow shuffleboard enthusiasts attending inaugural events in Brazil and Russia.

Last year she won a bronze medal in the inter-provincial tournament in New Brunswick. She won 10 games, tied 1,lost 1.

In tournament play in Ontario, Marjorie placed 1st in 1999 CNSA doubles with Mary Button. In total she has 27 points towards the 35 required for the Ontario Hall of Fame.

Marjorie was president of the Thames Horizon Shuffleboard Club in Chatham for 2 years..1997-98. Years ago the club in Chatham was the host to many CNSA tournaments. The club has only 8 courts, so we spent lots of time visiting and the social part of the game was very visible. Marjorie opened her home to several of us who travelled long distances. We’ve had more than a few evenings of crazy card games – lots of fun and great memories Marjie!!

It gives me great pleasure to present Marjorie Taylor the CNSA Hall of Fame, Player Category.
