First place in the red division was the Alberta Grizzlies, Captained by Jack Sell, extreme left. The Grizzlies took overall second place in the tournament.
The 33rd Annual National Western Team Tournament concluded on Saturday. The banquet was a great success with 454 guest in attendance. The social hours music was provided by Curtis Knox, Singer and Musician. Many of the shufflers were dancing and having a great time. The dinner consisted of three main entrees, as well as potatoes, vegetables, salad and a variety of desserts. After dinner the guests were entertained by none other the Dan “the man” Smith and the Chip and Dip Dancers, a.k.a. Sylvia Smith, Ruth and Dave Maas. Dan’s stories had all the participants laughing. After Dan’s presentation, the awards were presented. Shuffleboard Bob and & Gigi Briggs were recognized for the induction into the ISA Hall of Fame and Jane McWillie (Canada West), Jan Crouse, Sylvia Smith, Sheila Monday and Marolyn Davidson (all from the USA West Team) were recognized for their first and second place finishes at the ISA World Team Championships in Midland.* Sheila Monday (special category) and Gigi Briggs (player category) were then presented their plaques and pins for their election into the USA National Hall of Fame. Following the national awards, the Arizona Shuffleboard Association Hall of Fame plaques were presented to Charlie Garrett (special category) and Jane McWillie, Nancy Youngblood, and Dick Price (all in the player category). The final awards went to Karen Fodchuk, Paul Bilderback and Bert Routhier for going the entire tournament without being defeated or tied. Congratulations to all the award winners.
