The Mississippi Mills trophy awarded to Norm Fraser and Marian Fitzgibbon
Forty seniors braved another chilly day on Feb.24 ,2015 to take part in the last remaining event of the former Chili Days winter festival sponsored by the Town of Mississippi Mills-the Shuffleboard Tournament. Players arrived from Pakenham and Watson’s Corners as well as the locals from Almonte and Carleton Place. Convenor Marilyn Snedden was especially happy with the camaraderie and willingness of many to volunteer as referees or score keepers. Jean Smith deserves a special thanks for serving as an official all day instead of playing.Teams were chosen at random so it was a day to make new friends.
The Town provided the morning coffee break and Leatherworks Catering a bountiful lunch, covered by the registration fee.
After 10 games on 4 courts, the winners of the 4 pools played off-Margaret Inwood & Larence Munro; Charlotte Costello& Jan Pettem;Ruth Bowes & Ruth More and Norm Fraser & Marian Fitzgibbon. The Mississippi Mills trophy was awarded to Norm Fraser and Marian Fitzgibbon after they defeated Ruth Bowes and Ruth More .
Stan’s Note: All of the small towns identified in this newspaper article are in the Ottawa Valley, north west of Ottawa, ON. This just happens to be the same “valley” in which Basil and Eileen Fick, Barb and Jim Norton, Jack and Ilse Vooght, Alfie Mangan and Stan and Lois McCormack live!! “Hats Off” to the Club for getting our attention > and more importantly, the attention of the local readers!!!
