We Give You Article 14 by John Brown!! Come to the Masters, the Florida Southwest Coast District Masters!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAImagine this headline (Come to the Masters) sung to the tune of “Come to the Cabaret”. That could remind the reader of how welcome you are to this capstone of the Southwest Coast District Season.

The Open Masters and the District Amateur Masters will be played at Trailer Estates Wednesday, March 25 through Saturday noon March 28. Trailer Estates has covered bleachers, ice water, nearby restrooms, and a warm welcome.

This is only the second year for both tournaments at the same time and place. Next year this will be repeated at Bradenton with the addition of a Masters for State Amateurs at the same time and same place. This new feature will be added in 2016 for the first time in this District, although nearby districts have had this for years now.

For your information, ladies playing in the District Amateur Masters this Wednesday include Cheryl Putnam, Donna Schultz, Dian Darrah, Mary Pierce, Kay Lynn Duncan, Kathy Laver, Charlotte Broda, and Judy Cross, with Paula Jacobson as Alternate.

Men will include Tom Putnam, Terry Weigel, Adam Letz, Brad Thomas, Bernie Broda, Bill Jenkins, Emmons Berry, David Patchkowski, with Steve Slaughterbeck as Alternate.

Readers note that the annual District Amateur Masters is a once-in-a lifetime experience, coveted and often quite memorable.

Currently expected to play in the Open Masters are Ladies: Terri Smith, Nancy Sclafani, Letha DeVries, Margaret Hartzler, Erika Berg, Bonnie Walker, Alice Barlow, Pam Nurnberger and alternate Arlene McCague. Men: Jerry Stannard, Charlie DeVries, Peter Berg, Ed Leonard, Dave Kudro, Dwayne Cross, Ralph Lozano, Jim Miller with Alternate Ron Nurnberger. This list could be altered due to the possibility of a few contenders still playing at the State Tournament at Lakeland on Wednesday, our first day here. If a State contender is about to make the larger Florida Masters, they would be tempted to stay at Lakeland, letting another player here move up and play here.
