Glenna Earle speaks: Some of our Saltwater players went to play Floor Shuffleboard in the Nova Scotia 55+ Games. Through a twist of fate, the person who was asked to marshal this event had a sudden death in the family and was unable to carry out his task. So, David and I were
called the evening prior to the shuffleboard event to ask if we could fill in, which we did.

The gal who was our contact and in charge of this event was Rae Gunn who did an outstanding job of preparing everything she could so that we walked in, organized the games and got things underway. Rae is the Pictou area Recreation Coordinator and was the person who made sure 2 courts were purchased earlier this season so the Westville area could begin to practice.
There were 7 teams in the 55+ category and 5 teams in 70+. Each category played all the other teams in their group in a round robin format.
Pleased to say we had several winners from the Saltwater Club.
GOLD medal winners were Rose Irwin & Joanne Gallivan in the 55+ group.
SILVER was won by Hector Campbell & Sylvan Murdock (players from the new shuffling group in Truro)
BRONZE went to Barb & Wayne Chartrand who just started playing with our club after finding out about us when they came to participate in the 2013 Games in Truro.
The GOLD medal winners in the 70+ category were Don & Georgina Carpenter, who used to play in the Pinellas Park area of FL but due to health issues are not able to go south now. They were thrilled to find a place to play and will be joining the new group in Westville.
SILVER went to Isabel Melanson & Bill Ellis (also Saltwater players)
BRONZE was won by George Wood and Alf MacPherson, both just started in Truro.
Congratulations to all these great winners!!!
As you will see in the pictures which are posted at the top, there was a huge smile on the faces of the winners. There were lots of smiles on the faces of those who did not take home medals also.
The winners were presented with their medals by Andy Thompson, Deputy Warden, Municipality of the County of Pictou, co-chair of the Games committee. The other 2 ladies helping with the presentations were Sally O’Neill and Mary MacLellan, also on the organizing committee.
There were some folks playing from the Westville area where they have recently purchased 2 courts. They are so enthusiastic that I know they will be continuing to play in that area. Also some folks from a newly formed group in the Yarmouth area came to play. One of their sites will continue year round.
Thanks to all these wonderful people for coming to the games and for their good sportsmanship during the event. There were various skill levels involved so it was good to see some more experienced players helping others.
