NEWS FROM UKSA – 6th May 2016
Today saw the start of a much -anticipated 2 day tournament between the UKSA and Team Germany, taking place in Wymondham, Norfolk about 10 miles south of the city of Norwich.
The visit began after our guests had made the 10 hour trip from central Germany by various means of transport, including plane, ferry and Channel Tunnel. They received a warm and much appreciative welcome at a “Meet and Greet” at a pub in Wymondham town centre, a mere 25 yards stagger from their hotel, and a great evening was had by all.
The tournament started next morning on 4 hastily assembled polytile courts, with a dozen players on each side and with a few “alternates” stepping in to enjoy the experience. One of these was 12 year old Fabienne Fluck, who is clearly a shuffleboard star in the making.
It soon became apparent that the German squad’s lengthy tournament experience was going to prove a difficult hurdle for the UK folks to overcome. For a number of the home players, this was the first experience of competition shuffleboard. However, the whole event was played in a very friendly spirit, and all the UK players commented on the courtesy of their guests and the generous advice that was offered.
