This afternoon (2016 05 22) as we were driving home from Ottawa, WE needed music, music different from what we normally listen to on our Sirus XM Radio. Accordingly I placed a CD into the Player and music of Glenn Miller began!! The title of the CD was “CANADIAN TRIBUTE TO Glenn Miller. As I was driving, Lois opened the descriptive flyer in the container. WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT, the 2nd piece on the cd, JUKE BOX SATURDAY NIGHT,was a solo by Trumpeter Bob Read!! He played in many of the other 14 pieces but soloed in Juke Box Saturday Night. Trumpeter Bob lives in Woodbrook Estates in Lakeland, FL during the winter and in Wasaga Beach during the summer.
Bob has donated freely of his talent and time in support of Shuffleboard. Probably the best example is his performance on board the Ship Miss Midland during our Cruise on the occasion of the 2009 Very First Inter Provincial (IP) Tournament held in Coldwater, ON . Pic at top is of Bob and Glenna Earle, a most talented musician in her own right!! I very much doubt if anyone who was in the audience has forgotten the magic of the evening!!
As good as Glenna and Bob were, it was the fine support of the above group, plus a versatile piano and horn player missing from the pic, Louis Lefaive , that brought it all together, Made It Work For the Audience.
This related musical activity, PUT TOGETHER BY GARY PIPHER, was a major factor in the positive reaction from the Provinces toward IP (Inter Provincial) Tournaments. The success of IP #1 gave momentum that has carried on to this day!!
Put together by Stan on 2016 05 22 in support of the above noted musicians and all other musicians who perform similarly. Perhaps in another posting, I will identify some of “The Others”.
