The Lakeside Art Show will display original artwork from Tuesday, June 28-Saturday, July 23 in the lobby of Hoover Auditorium. This year marks the 60th anniversary for the show, and the 50th anniversary for inclusion of children’s entries.
Also in Hoover Auditorium beginning at 8:15 p.m., July 20th, we will be treated to: Helen Welch “The New American Songbook” Critically-acclaimed vocalist, Helen Welch, will present a special concert, titled “The New American Songbook” at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 20.
Welch, a native of England, is known for her musical theatre roles and one-woman show. She can be heard singing in the background on recordings of well-known, international musicians. She released her first disc collection in 2006, titled One Dream. The album is a collection of Broadway hits, classic pop tunes and compositions co-written by Welch. It features the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and her quartet. Her second disc collection, Forever and Now, was released in 2010. Welch is president of Big Wow Productions and has developed shows such as “Divas I,” Divas II,” “Swingin’ on Broadway,” “Movie Magic” and “The Look of Love,” all of which she had a starring role. During Welch’s first visit to Lakeside, she wrote two songs and appeared in the film “Christmas at Maxwell’s,” which was filmed at the bed & breakfast, Maxwell’s Hospitality House, in 2004.
Her first performance at Hoover was in 2011, when she performed a tribute to legendary female artists in “Divas: Celebration of the First Ladies of Song.” She returned in 2014 to pay tribute to the “Music of the Carpenters.” This will be her third performance in Lakeside.
** I had the good fortune to watch the final match at Lakeside for the US National Singles Championship in 2001. It was played in the evening with no other matches going on; a large crowd in attendance and all eyes and ears glued to the action. Without a doubt it was the very best match that I have ever watched and it literally went “to the wire”!! You can bet that I will be in the stands this year at 6:15 p.m., AND my expectations are high!!! CU THERE!!!
Challenge For You. In the Comments Section, leave the names of the two individuals who competed in the 2001 Event!! (Click on “Leave a comment”)
