The National Western Shuffleboard Team Tournament started with the Captain’s and Orientation Meetings on Sunday, Nov 6th. The tournament has 20 teams with 16 to 18 shufflers on each team (approximately 330 shufflers). The teams are divided into three divisions based on the winning percentages from the previous year. There are seven teams in the first two divisions and six teams in the third division. All games will be played in District I resorts: Mesa Spirit (Host Park), Greenfield and Venture Out. Awards will be presented to the two top teams (based on percentage of wins) in each division at a banquet to be held at Greenfield on Saturday evening. Each team will compete against the other 19 teams. Eight players from each team will compete at one time playing singles with the winner of each game receiving a point for their team.
At the conclusion of the first three days of play the Alberta Grizzlies (Jack Sell & Lynn Bell co-captains) are in first place of the first division followed by the Arizona Mustangs.
In the second division, the Colorado Rockies are in first place, and the Saskatchewan Prairie Dogs in second. The third division is lead by the Arizona Longshots with the Arizona Bobcats in second.
Here is a chart displaying the results for the first two days. 2016-wsa-wednesday-results There are still three days of competition remaining so the standings may change each day.
