SHUFFLE SCHOOL IN YOUR FUTURE?
At the Southwest Coast District Open Board meeting on January 7, shuffle schools were planned. The new, expanded Masters, now in 6 divisions – M/L District Amateurs, State Amateurs, and Pros – needs more referees. Jerry Everett will conduct referee school on two dates, so students have a choice of Saturday, January 21 or Saturday, February 11. School will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Bradenton Shuffleboard Club. Bring your lunch as it will continue until 3 or 4 p.m. These schools will help your game as well as your own confidence and self-image, and will qualify you to help make the Masters a more complete success.
Also, any Club that would like a player’s school to be held at their venue can request one by contacting President Ron Nurnberger at 231 690-1517 or John L. Brown at 756-8548. There is no charge for this service. We can offer beginner, intermediate, or advanced levels of instruction. An estimate of attendance is helpful in organizing faculty.
Another subject discussed was the need for volunteers’ help at tournaments. If a court needs sweeping, or beading, volunteers are a great help. The tournament can proceed more efficiently if capable volunteers speak up. Please let the Tournament Director know if you are available and not playing for a while. Permission from the Director is required before changing a surface. If players disagree, the Director will determine if change is legitimate.
A sad note this week was the passing of the wife of Dennis Wood of Tidevue Estates. Dennis is a faithful spectator and amateur records keeper, even when not playing. We extend our sympathy in this loss.
Congratulations to Dave Kudro and Nancy Sclafani on recently winning their 200 points and eligibility for induction into the Florida Shuffleboard Hall of Fame. And thanks to all who make this District a veritable fraternity in which to compete. Happy Shuffling.
