In the shuffleboard season 2002/2003, Max and Ruth Tate while active members of the Sebring Recreation Club, organized a one day tournament for amateur shufflers from Mobile Home Parks and Communities in the Sebring area. Invitations were sent out to many Parks/Communities and the first 12 registrations [ 72 players] were accepted. The idea of this tournament was to attract shufflers to the downtown facility and encourage membership into the club. Over the past 15 seasons, shufflers from twelve Parks and Communities have enjoyed wonderful competition& fellowship in this annual event. In the year 2009, the tournament, to the surprise of the Tates, was named the Max and Ruth Tate Invitational. For these many years, several of the original participants continued to apply and the Club benefited from new memberships.
This year’s event was the final of the Tate Invitational. The Tates will be spending January & February, 2018 in Villaricos Spain [ health and conditions permitting]. From all reports, a similar tournament will continue in the years ahead.
Today’s event (2017 03 09) was very competitive and a winner was not declared until after the 6th and final game. Prize money was awarded to the top 6 teams. Results BELOW.
