Preparing for the 37th ISA World Championship in High River AB

Shuffleboard at the High River Curling Arena

Sent along by Ken Wardley:  Not sure if you knew this, but a major international Shuffleboard tournament is coming to High River next year.

Stan McCormack Speaks: I am now giving a link. The material you will read is also shown below. However; what is new is the Video and 28 pix.  The video is only 26 sec. but it is well done.  Thanks Ken for the promo. !!  Here is the link: https://www.highriveronline.com/sun-country-blog/video-picking-up-some-tips-on-shuffleboard-photo-gallery   NOTE: There is a link beginning: “The 37th International >>> to Championships.”  Check it out by all means, BUT do come back and watch the video, further down the page.

The 37th International Shuffleboard Association World Championships is coming here right after the Calgary Stampede next year.
Pretty cool right?  The World Championships…this is a big deal.
Men’s and Women’s teams of 6 will be arriving for the World Championships from July 15-20, 2018.
And this truly is a world event with Australia, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, UK, USA and possibly China, India and Russia making their way here for this prestigious event.
So, with that in mind Sun Country’s Sarah Scott and our Agriculture Reporter, Jessica GIles along with myself ventured over to the curling rink to learn a few things about it and have some fun getting to know the members of the Foothills Shuffleboard Association.
Ken Wardley guided us through the steps and the rules.  It’s not as easy as I thought it would be and there’s a lot of strategy involved.  Like a team chess game combined with curling.  If you want to find out more and take up a really fun, social sport they’d love to talk to you just go to their website for contact info.
And talk about affordable…only $20 for your membership fee and they play 3 times a week from May through August.
And thanks to everyone for allowing us to play, ask a million questions and treating us so warmly.
