Earl and David In White Jackets
David Earle Speaks: “If you ask me what I came into this life to do, I will tell you: I came to live out loud.” EMILE ZOLA. Kind of describes Earl don’t you think??
The man is definitely goal oriented and lives his life ‘out loud’. That he is a force to be reckoned with is one of his goals. Every time he steps on a court he wants you to remember it, win or lose. While he wants to win (don’t we all?), he will be the first to congratulate you if you play him well and beat him.
Earl has had many great partners on his road to 1000 but that’s because he is a great partner. You won’t ever hear Earl criticize you and he is quick with praise if you play well. Get him near the end game and watch him go…the best closer in the game. The Shuffle Gods appear to be in his back pocket!
If you practice with him prior to a tournament, you may get a rough ride. He’s a master strategist and wants you to see the ‘right’ play. Practice like you play is his mantra.
Much is made of Earl’s intensity on and off the courts, but that’s what allows him to keep playing and practicing at the highest level. He refuses to give up and just relax. He can’t! But if you ever get an opportunity to play with him, seize it and enjoy the ride.
The good Lord willing and the creeks don’t rise too high, Earl will get to 1000 pts and beyond. He’ll keep chasing Glen as a goal. He needs the challenge. He already knows that the challenge may be beyond him but it really won’t matter since he is already one of the greats in shuffleboard.
Confucius would tell you, Earl, ‘that it does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop’. See you on the courts!
