Michael Zellner Speaks: I was quite saddened to hear of the passing of Clarence De Turk most recently. He was kind, big hearted and full of life for someone his age. He left us on April 24th, 2018.
Years ago he contacted me when I was ISA President about requirements and possibility of competing in a World Championship and I told him I had just the right place for him and immediately accepted him. Clarence was placed on the United Nations team where he positively motivated the newer younger and less experienced players from multiple nations. The smile on his face was unforgettable and as he marched in with his team and he looked like a peacock strutting his feathers. During the awards ceremonies and the conclusion of the championships, I always made it a practice to recognize and call forward the most senior and most junior players competing in the world championship. Most memorably, during the 33rd World Championship while up on stage he raised fists toward the youngest player drawing laughter from the audience. “Ate nos encontramos novamente Clarence vai com Deus.”
