PLEASE BE SAFETY CONSCIOUS!!
Stan Speaks: To-day at Lakeland (2006 03 21) we experienced an unfortunate accident and although it turned out not to be as serious as it first appeared, it did send a message and that message is PLEASE ENSURE OUR SHUFFLING FACILITIES ARE AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE!
Background: Some time ago components from the sound system speakers were stolen. The city provided portable speakers to permit continued operation of the public address system.
One of the speakers blew over to-day hitting Jim Bailey on the head and also striking Bill Lohbusch on the shoulder. Jim suffered a severe blow on the back of his head. Bill stood up, stumbled forward and fell to the court clutching his shoulder. It was apparent that he was experiencing considerable pain and it was deemed best not to move him. 911 was called and responded in “due time”! After talking with Bill and slowly moving his limbs, they returned him to an upright position. Jim’s blow was examined; the medics asked both a number of questions to ascertain if they were AOK!! Play was interrupted for all players for approximately 30 minutes. The good news is that both Bill and Jim were able to continue their match and did in fact finish it without further incident. I thought it best NOT to take pix of our 2 fallen comrades.
REMEMBER SHUFFLERS; BOTH JIM AND BILL ARE NOW AOK!

SHUFFLING NEWS! AS IT HAPPENS!
Smiles around on Monday, January 23rd as US National President Walt Wedel shakes hands with Past President Jim Clayton. Jim was inducted into the National Hall of Fame for his contribution to shuffling and to the organization while serving as President.
Jim served with distinction and never lost that sense of humor which is ever in the forefront of the man!! Jim and Mary spent last summer touring Alaska and doing some fishing ~~ something they both enjoy immensely. Mary informed me that they continue to derive a great deal of enjoyment from their travels. All Shufflers extend to Jim, and to Mary, our sincere thanks for their service. NATIONAL CHAMPION NAMED TEACHER OF THE YEAR “BOBBY SUDOMIR” OF LAKESIDE, OH!!
That’s right, 32 year old teacher Bobby Sudomir of Ohio is a four time National Champion and has just been named to the USA National team. He’s from Lakeside and is a product of their youth Shuffleboard programs where as many as a 1000, yes 1000 young people play on the courts in a single day.
But more importantly he has just been named teacher of the year in the State of Ohio and that is largely due to the efforts of his students and the essays they wrote about him. CONGRATULATIONS BOBBY!! ~~ FROM ALL SHUFFLERS!!
