Stu Cassell Speaks: This past week 16 members of the St. Louis Shuffleboard Club competed in the Indiana State Games in order to qualify for the National Senior Games in Albuquerque, Arizona in 2019. I am happy to report that all 16 of our members won medals. All but a few of us won two medals, and two of us while not winning a medal came in 4th place, which was good enough to qualify for Nationals. Our group came home with 7 gold, 13 silver, and 8 bronze. We faced players from Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Illinois. We also faced each other in a lot of the finals. I had to compete against my doubles partner Bob Jennerjohn. Besides playing for a medal we were also playing for the right to sleep in the back seat on the ride home. He won, but I didn’t mind losing to one of my good friends.
This was the first time I went out of Missouri to compete in shuffleboard since moving back to St. Louis from Florida in 2012. The week after next we’ll be competing at the St. Louis Senior Olympics, and many of us will do other events in addition to shuffleboard.
I am the club publicist and take care of social media, on Facebook and our web page. It’s something I enjoy doing and I take a lot of pictures and video throughout the year. When I got home from Evansville, I couldn’t believe how many pictures and video clips I had even though I played 5 games that day as well as taking a lunch break.
I put together everything and made an 8 minute movie. As you will see, we all wore our gold club polo shirts and were easy to spot.
Here is the link to the movie I made on Youtube if you’d like to see some Midwesterners playing shuffle board.
