The St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club had the pleasure of hosting a 4th July Draw Doubles tournament this Independence Day with members traveling from Betmar, Leesburg, Lakeland, Bradenton, Clearwater, Pinellas Park, Fort Myers, and other neighboring clubs to enjoy the fun.
A casual tournament of four 12-frame games (to beat the midday heat), we were especially delighted to see pros mixed with amateurs, allowing newer players to pit their shuffle skills against masters champions. They certainly gave us a run for our entry fees!
Pam Nurnberger of Bradenton took first followed by Frank Niziolek of Clearwater, who came in second. Ron Nurnberger, also of Bradenton, came in third with Rosaire Cote of Clearwater taking fourth. Well deserved all round.
With discs and cues packed away, players made their way to Moon Under Water on St. Petersburg’s waterfront for lunch and more shuffle camaraderie.
A special thank you to Erik Hahmann, Vice President at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club, for his hard work in hosting another lovely tournament, as well as Mary Eldridge, who assisted. Thank you to all of the visiting players, too, and the encouragement of Earl Ball. We appreciate you traveling and spending your 4th July holiday with us in St. Pete and hope to see you all on October 15th for our state pro mixed doubles and amateur any doubles!
