A Warm Welocme to Canada by ISA President Myrna Bilton.

A Warm Welcome to Canada

On behalf of the International Shuffleboard Association, it is my privilege to thank the Foothills Shuffleboard Association for hosting the “37th ISA World Championship” in High River, Alberta, Canada.
The International Shuffleboard Association was founded in 1979 with William Johnston as the first ISA President. William Johnston was a Canadian man from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. I’m proud to say that I’m the first female ISA President and I’m from Ontario, Canada.
These past 2 years as the ISA President has been a humbling experience for me…….making me realize “how big the world is and how small I am”.
The ISA board have been a great team of people to work with. “Diversity is our Strength” which gives the ISA many opportunities for growth.

Ken Wardley, event co-ordinator for High River, Verena Wardley and committee have been planning and organizing for this memorable event to make sure their visitors have an “awesome week”.
There is lots of “excitement” in the air these past few weeks as our host puts on the final touches for participants that are representing 10 countries.

My expectations and hope for the “37th ISA Championship” is to follow the ISA Inherent Mission….
The Inherent Mission of the International Shuffleboard Association is to promote and foster positive international relations around the world through the game of shuffleboard. It is for this very reason that we annually meet. Our member nations gather at selected worldwide locations to share love, develop lasting friendships, learn new cultures, and spend precious time together engaging in competitive shuffleboard.

I know many of our friends are travelling now…..enjoying the sights and countries along the way.
We arrive in High River on Friday, July 13th. I’m so looking forward to renewing our many friendships and making new friends. It is heart warming for me ….to see the new participants take part in their first ISA event. If they are like me……they will be “hooked”.

May all the participants enjoy a week filled with good shuffling, lots of laughter and many new friendships.
Prayers for good health, safe travels ,love and peace.

And it’s the devotion and willingness of people like you that make these things possible. I have so enjoyed meeting you & attending the international events that I’ve been fortunate to get to. Hoping to be able to take in some more in the future. A most sincere thank you for all you have done and continue to do!

Stan Speaks: Here are some previous comments by Joanne Gallivan: “Great pic of a most appealing Island!! Shuffler Joanne Gallivan said this: “I have lived most of my life in one of the most beautiful places in the world, Cape Breton Island (Nova Scotia). Travel and Leisure magazine recently named it the top island destination in North American and third in the world, after Bali and Sicily.” It is just possible that Harold (Thorne) has an attachment to this “wonderful island”!! INDEED HAROLD DOES HAVE AN ATTACHMENT: Check this: Yes. Lived there for about 13 years. Have 2 children there, 4 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. I used to manage the Lobster Shanty North Restaurant and motel in Montague. Harold Thorne.
