CANADA 55+ GAMES: Excellent Summary by Glenna Earle!!

Glenna Earle Speaks:  Not sure how many people know about the CANADA 55+ GAMES which hold a National event every 2nd year at a location rotating from East to West to the centre of our vast country.
Each time one of these events happens 3-4000 people gather to attend and to play approximately 20 or more different events. From card games, to hockey, curling, swimming, horseshoes, badminton, bowling, pickle ball, golf, darts, as well as several others…..even shuffleboard!!! Perhaps I should also tell you that the teams are divided into categories for shuffleboard. Over age 55 as one category, and over 70 for the other.

In the alternate years between National 55+ Games, each province holds a Provincial 55+ Games where 3 teams from each category, are chosen to represent their provinces. In the case of shuffleboard there were 24 teams registered for the 2018 games in Saint John, New Brunswick. A team consists of 2 players(non gender-specific).

From Nova Scotia, we sent 4 teams representing 2 clubs in the province. They started the games Tuesday and finished yesterday (Thursday).
They all did extremely well and 3 of the 4 NS teams placed.
I have included a picture above of those who placed, thanks to Ellie Crowell who sent all this information to me.

In the OVER 55 Group:
1st- Cheryl Clarke & David McMurphy (Yukon)
2nd – Rose Irwin & Ed MacKay (NS- Saltwater Shuffle Club)
3rd- Jim & Ellie Crowell (NS & Zephyrhills shuffle club ZSC)

Over 70 category:
1st- Paul Belliveau & Wayne Edgett (NB & Wayne is also a member at ZSC)
2nd- Jim Irwin & Jack Hatt ( NS- Saltwater Shuffle Club)
3rd- David Robertson & Ernest Thomas (?)

Congratulations to all winners and to all who participated!!!!! It is always a fun time meeting so many people from other parts of the country.
We (Saltwater Shuffle Club) are very proud of our NS players.
