Coldwater Club President Carol Archer presenting the Polkinghorne award to 94 year old Maggie Maynord
Coldwater shuffleboard club wrapped up another great summer season of shuffleboard today Aug 30 2018 with their AGM complete with elections and presentation of special awards .The meeting was immediately followed up with three games of shuffleboard and then everyone pitched in and put all the summer equipment away in the storage container.
The winter season will start up on Oct 2 ,2018 and will be played on roll out courts in the auditorium of the Municipal Arena next door to the Curling Arena.
A presentation was made by President Carol Archer and the recipient of the prestigious “Polkinghorne” award this year was 94 year old Maggie Maynord .
Maggie is truly dedicated and deserving member of the club.
Maggie broke her hip this past summer and she no sooner arrived home from the hospital and wanted to be back at the shuffleboard club. It appears the drive to be back at the club was so very helpful in her speedy recovery.
Maggie is involved twice a week selling share the wealth tickets which is an important fund raising event for the club. Maggie also collects the number tags that indicate the number of members present before the players step on the courts. Then I might add that she then plays 3 games of shuffleboard and in between will gather and distribute court sticks for the next game.
As each player enters the club house they take a number tag from a device that was designed and donated to the Coldwater Club over 12 years ago by the late Lois McCormack, and it is so very useful to determine how many courts are required .
Another fine dinner for the 80 plus members was catered by the ever popular Larry Lalonde of ELM catering . After the dinner members were treated to the music by President Carol Archer on her electric key board and everyone joined in for a great evening of singing.
A gift exchange was made by a draw of the banquet tickets and everyone went home with a beautiful gift.
Many of the members will soon be packing up for their winter in Florida and if you should happen to be playing against one of the Coldwater members this winter and it sounds like they are bragging about the club back home , please be patient. They are just wanting to let you know they are proud of their club.
