Albert left us on October 25th. He was in his 77th Year. Albert and Donna joined many Canadian and American Shufflers on our Wonderful Adventure to Sochi Russia.
I thought I would begin with this summary by Donna Blom, a summary of the lifestyle and shuffling career of Donna and Albert.
Albert & I bought our winter home in Lazy Days Park in North Ft. Myers in 2000. After looking into what the park had to offer we joined some of the clubs such as cards, crafts, exercise and golf.
There was a shuffleboard que in our shed so we went to the clubhouse and began our learning experience as neither one of us had tried this sport. We kept practising with others and got beaten on a regular basis but we kept trying and in 2002 we joined the Lazy Days shuffleboard team which is a member of the Bayshore League. We still play on this team and our park has achieved first place the last 6 years. Also last year our park joined the Northshore League and we play on that team on Tuesdays. We both enjoy the competition of league play.
We are both members of the Lee County Shuffleboard Club and enjoy daily play as well as tournaments and also travel to a few other tournaments in our area. We thoroughly enjoy the camaraderie of our friends and neighbours in shuffleboard.
We have also shuffled in the Senior’s games at Lee & both have medals to show for ourselves. In 2009 the Centre Wellington Shuffleboard Club was formed in Fergus and we play there 2 days a week in the summer and we are also directors of this club. It is a curling rink in the winter and we curled there for several years before we started going to Florida.
While home in the summer there are 4 tournaments we participate in. We also have a 5th wheel trailer so we camp at these events with our friends and play in tournaments at Coldwater, St. Marys, Woodstock and Picton. We have been doing this for the last three years and have placed in a couple of those tournaments.
