Allen Speaks: This week we’ve come to play at the Mid-FL Lakes facility. Like Coronado/Mainland last week, this club also is unique as it sits on the Haynes Creek waterway. Mid-FL Lakes is a mobile home community with 18 textured courts which get beaded. Some tricky drifts here and there to test your skill. They also roll out the big grill and do it up right with Hot Dogs, Burgers, Sausages, etc. Monday as they got the grill going the aroma drifted right towards the courts and hunger set in immediately. I find this facility very relaxing from the norm, a casual atmosphere for sure.
A rather nice turn out this week with 34 teams of pros and ams. This event was a No Two Pro Tournament. Players came from everywhere, stretching from New Smyrna Beach to Clermont.
Donna King directed the event. Many byes in this one which held some up in their quarters and others in the finals playing catch up.
Day one got off the a good start as we had sunny skies and mild breezes. Day two was another story as Mother Nature left us with flooded courts. Thanks to Gary Knox, he did his very best to get us the courts with the least amount of water on them. We pretty much got through the morning session before heavy rains came again. Back to work went Gary and he got them playable before long. Regular beading and breezes helped a lot. Thanks Gary.
This week I finally brought the camera and got some pictures of everyone returning Friday, I guess there may be hope for me yet! Don’t hold your breath on that one.
Frank Cherill won his 4th in a row, he is on a roll here in the north.
Stan McCormack helping me out with the pictures and getting them in order, it is appreciated.
Next week we’re heading to the Hawthorne, Men’s Dbls. and Ladies Dbls. Lunches will be available.
