Above we have Gloria McLaughlin in 2011, on the left, and on the right we have her in 2018 with her friend Tom.
Gloria McLaughlin said this in May of 2011!! Before I reveal what she said in 2011, I should tell you that Gloria and friend Tom, both from Sarnia, Ontario, visited the recent Port Charlotte Tournament. They both live in Sarnia, ON and winter in Punta Gorda, FL. Myrna Bilton alerted me to this visit, and shared their Pic. YOU TOO CAN/SHOULD send along information of a similar visit of a friend of yours!!
Understandably, as Gloria has been at this game since 2011, she was warmly welcomed.
OK, here is what she said in 2011: I first started playing shuffleboard in 1968, on my first trip to Florida to visit my mom. My mom loved the game and soon my husband Joe and I did also. Joe and I bought our first mobile home in 1991 in Punta Gorda Florida. We started playing shuffleboard for fun in Buttonwood Village and soon I ventured over to “Wiggs Park” in Port Charlotte Florida where there were more courts and some competition, but still just for fun.
In 1996 I played in one of my first tournaments and it was the State Pro tournament. My partner (Dianna May) and I placed third in the main and so I became an instant pro.
I have played on the Canadian International Team two different years. The first time I played was 2001 in Coolangatta Australia and in 2002 in Clearwater Florida. In 2004 I went to England with the Allen’s to an Inaugural; a good time was had by all.
In the summer when I am back in Ontario I play in Chatham at least once a week. I have been the secretary of our club for eleven years. I will be going to Sun City Arizona to play in the East/West Tournament in September.
One of the best things about the game of shuffleboard is all the many friends I have made over the years. Gloria McLaughlin. May of 2011.
