Congratulations to Jim O’Brien, 2019 Newbie

The Southern District sponsored its 4th Annual Newbie Tournament at Lee County Shuffleboard Club on Saturday, January 26. In spite of being unable to finish because of rain, the 38 participants enjoyed the fast courts and meeting new people in the singles mingles format. Organized and directed by Ray Buck, the tournament was also greeted by District President Bob Smith and host President John Holder, the latter providing free coffee and donuts for players and volunteers.

Once again, a cue donated by Allen Shuffleboard was awarded to the first place finisher. Many thanks to Jim Allen for his continued generosity in promoting shuffleboard in the state. Cash prizes were given up to 8th place. Finishing in the top three were:
1. Jim O’Brien, Woodsmoke Resort, Ft. Myers
2. David Atwood, Lake Arrowhead, N. Ft. Myers
3. Howard Snider, Woodsmoke Resort, Ft. Myers

A second Newbie Tournament will be hosted by Citrus Park next Saturday in the southern part of the District.
