EARL ASKED THIS QUESTION ON THE SHUFFLER 13 YEARS AGO!!! i.e. in 2007
WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE SAID????
BY EARL BALL: The first person I encountered last week was the MRI technician and it wasn’t long before we were talking about Shuffleboard. He knew nothing about shuffleboard; they don’t have it in the Destin-Ft Walton Beach area. I explained as much as I could as fast as I could, starting with court size and equipment and getting down to how the game is played and how competitive it is. Needless to say, I ran out of time and as we were walking to my next appointment he asked me a question.
HERE IS THE QUESTION: If I could give him one tip about the game, what would it be? My mind scrambled, knowing he knew nothing about the game and I said to him “watch the scoreboard, know if you have a chance to win or if you are about to get beat” and I was off to my next stop.
I’ve thought about that a number of times since, not knowing if I said the right thing! What do you think? What would you have said???

Peggi wrote to Earl, and SAID THIS: I would say to someone starting “ have fun, learn the basic rules and then I know for sure the game will grab hold of you and when it does you will study it more and more. You will play a game where you beat a pro, or you make an amazing shot and you are hooked. And I still say “ have fun”. Peggi

Earl Replied: Hi Peggy,
I like your answer so much better than mine. I hope you don’t mind if I use it in the future. I always struggle with where to start a new player.
Thank you,
Earl
