On Monday, April 21st, 2008 following breakfast at the Tulip Inn in Amsterdam, 2 Normal Size Roll Out Shuffleboard Courts were put down, along with a smaller version of a Shuffleboard Court. This was to be the day for a Shuffling Demonstration, not just of Floor Shuffleboard as played by ISA Members, but also a demonstration of Dutch Shuffleboard. It was not long until the Dutch Shuffleboard Club led by Rien Reijns had arrived and set up several of their Shuffleboard Tables.
By mid-morning it was evident that both nations were enjoying each other’s game, and of equal importance, enjoying each other’s company. I was standing by Jim Allen and he had this to say: “I could not be more pleased with the fun that both countries are having; we have waiting lines to try the new game, and as well, the Dutch are waiting in line to try our game. They are sharing camaraderie, not just a sport. This is the first time that Holland has ever seen our sport, conversely for the vast majority of our players, it is the first time we have ever seen their sport. We have a union of people enjoying Shuffleboard; that is the cool part”. Jim.
We could not have an International Meet of Shufflers without a competition! The very bottom photo at this link is of the 3 Winners. Brazilian President Michael Zellner and his wife Ivone did very well, Michael placing 2nd and Ivone 3rd. However; the 1st place winner was none other than the woman on your left, Doris Bumstead of the Coldwater Shuffleboard Club!! Doris liked the game so much that she is exploring the possibility of purchasing a Board! Stay tuned; Doris is going to have another Big Win when we report on the happenings in Germany!! Congratulations to all who participated. It was a great morning!!
