We Give You Shirley and Charlie Griffin.

It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to Shirley Griffin this
evening. She made Pro in 1987 and quit in 2003 with 194 Points. In
November 2005 I lost my partner for the Hawthorne tournament and with my
encouragement, Shirley decided to give it one last try and we placed 1st
earning 5 more points and moving her to 199. Two weeks later she paired up
with Marion Lohbush at Deland and qualified for the FSA Hall of Fame.
She played in 4 Pro Masters and tied for 2nd at Lake Worth in 1990. She has played on 4 Internationals and has also played tournaments in Ohio, New Jersey, Hendersonville,
Canada and Las Vegas where she came in 2nd in the ladies singles. She is ranked 10th in the National Shuffleboard Association with 159 Points.
She most deserves to be inducted into the Florida Shuffleboard Hall of Fame tonight and here she is, my friend, everybody’s friend, Shirley Griffin.

Shuffleboard is not a matter of life and death;
it’s more important than that!” Charlie Griffin.

Charles Griffin started coming to Florida every winter in 1960,
however, he didn’t try shuffleboard until February 1985. He then
gave up golf and made Instant Pro March 24, 1986 at the Fun and
Sun in Clearwater. He also met his wife Shirley while playing in
tournaments. He has held the positions of Delegate and Historian
for the FAS and is always willing to explain strategy and help
anyone with their game.
Charlie has 11 first place finishes – four of them are Full Moon
Singles at Lakeland. He has qualified for the Masters four times
and won seven FSA medals. He also has won the National Singles,
National Doubles, Florida State Doubles, and the Las Vegas
Singles in
Charlie has collected and donated many items for the FSA Museum
in Sebring, Florida.
Some of his collection of postcards, depicting shuffleboard in
it’s beginning stages around Florida, are shown throughout this
book. The collection is now owned by Dorothy Wagasky.
