We Tell You A Little about Dave and Sue Minnich

Dave and Sue Minnich

Dave Minnich will be inducted into the Florida Shuffleboard “Hall of Fame”, Player Category, on January 17th, 2005, at the HOF Banquet at Sarasota, FL.  Dave was inducted into the President’s Category at the Hall of Fame Banquet of 2004.  Induction now, into the Player Category, has special meaning by reason of being able to amass player points while occupying the office of President.  All who have held office know how difficult it is to answer questions, hold a conversation and settle a dispute~~all while trying to concentrate on your game.  Dave has always been one of shuffleboard’s most committed individuals, having held one or more offices at the same time since he began shuffling.  He began as league captain for his park, became a club officer, and was elected to the Clearwater Club Board of Directors and on to West Coast District President and Keeper of Records.  As if that wasn’t enough, he was asked to join the Florida Shuffleboard Association Board of Directors and the rest, as they say, is history.  Dave is one of Florida’s top players as evidenced by his qualifying for the State “Masters” each of the last five years.  In 2003-2004, he was “Roll of Champions” co-champion and is the defending Florida State Singles Champion.  He also won the Eastern National Singles Championship to “get” his National Pin.  The presentation of the coveted National Pin was greeted by a warm and enthusiastic round of applause because Dave had been chasing the rainbow for years~~only to be brides made on several occasions.  This summer he added the Eastern National Doubles to his collection.  Dave represented the USA at the International Games held in Goderich, Ontario, and had been selected to represent the US at the ill-fated Halifax, Nova Scotia Games.  Dave and wife Sue owned their own business in the great State of Pennsylvania before retiring to enjoy the Sunshine of Florida during the winter and the Mountains of North Carolina during the summer.  They have four children and eight grandchildren that they visit each summer in Pennsylvania.  Congratulations Dave on this well deserved and significant accomplishment!!

Sue Minnich Tells Us Something of Her Journey! ALSO HALL OF FAMER!!!

Dave and I started coming to Florida as snow birds in 1989.  We still owned a Hallmark Card and Gift Shop in Pennsylvania but decided to sell it and retire in 1992 and become full time sun worshipers.  We moved to Down Yonder Mobile Home Park, the first of a number of places we’ve lived in Florida.

Dave discovered Shuffleboard first but it wasn’t long and I was involved too.  I started out playing in a League for a few years and in 1995 I started playing in tournaments and became a Pro in 1997, the bug had bitten!  Dave and I traveled the State playing tournaments and spending time with the many friends we made along the way.

I qualified for the Florida Shuffleboard Association Hall of Fame in 2008 with over 200 points and will be inducted this year thanks to the 31 different partners that I earned points with; nobody does it alone and I appreciate each and every one I’ve ever played with, thank you all.  A special thank you to my husband, Dave, for all he has taught me about the game, his support and encouragement along the way leading to my Hall of Fame career.

Over the years Dave and I have made Shuffleboard such a big part of our life that we have traveled all over the eastern part of the United States playing tournaments, many of them National Tournaments and I have been fortunate to earn over 100 National points and to have played on the USA National Team in the International World Championships in Goderich, Ontario.

Dave and I have four Children and eight Grand Children all living in Pennsylvania.

When I played with Dave I was playing with a friend. Many times we talked and confided in each other. We seemed to win over and over. We were comfortable as partners. When i was president of the fsa Dave was my book of knowledge. Sue surprised us all and become a great player herself. She developed the entire game and understood it all very well. Good luck my friends.

I am honored to have been able to know these two very respected individuals!!! Both David and Sue have made a very large impact not only on the game of shuffle board but to those players, including myself, by setting the example of what it truly means to be respected leaders in the game of shuffle board!!!!

I know I should write something, but I don’t know what I would say that I haven’t already said. Dave, as a retired Businessman, was an excellent President of the FSA. Those were great times, I guess we just didn’t know it. Both Dave and Sue were great players. The game misses them!
