RENFREW SHUFFLERS; It was JERRY WHO, ALTHOUGH UNDER A LOT OF PRESSURE, (see article) made that MUST DO SHOT, MADE EVEN TOUGHER, BECAUSE WE WERE WATCHING!! (WE included his wife Karen and others)

Shuffleboard is Game for All Ages!! Shuffleboard is a game which demands co-ordination of one’s Skills and Abilities! Shuffleboard keeps us Active!! Shuffleboard keeps us Thinking!!
On Thursday May 26th at the Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre in Barry’s Bay, the Shufflers of Renfrew County put those skills to work to determine who would “Take Home the Bragging Rights” to their local town or district!! If was not until the final match of the day that we knew who would have the GOLD; who would have the SILVER, and who would have the BRONZE!!
John and Marjorie Watt of Calabogie overpowered their opposition, Bob Archambault and Ed Quesnelles to take the GOLD; SILVER going to Bob and Ed.
The real excitement was for the Bronze Medal. Pearl Smith and Jean Archambault were playing Jerry Cockwell of Renfrew and his partner Marlene Savage of Combermere. When the final frame began, Jerry and Marlene were down 8 points. In Shuffleboard this is not “the end of the world” as Jerry and Marlene had “two hammers”; that is they were shooting black, and black was shooting last. Unfortunately Marlene DID NOT MAKE HER HAMMER, the first hammer. That doubled the pressure on Jerry because it meant, to win, he must score more than 8 points!! Jerry’s opponent left a 7 on the board with her last disc. Jerry must now score with his last disc; AND TO THE DELIGHT OF THE CROWD, he did just that!! BRONZE medal goes to Jerry Cockwell and Marlene Savage.
Congratulations to all of the participants, and a “Big Thanks” to Virginia Lyons who directed the Tournament.
