In the recent past these men have donated $600.00 in support of Shuffleboard!!  There are other examples of such generosity, but not in the recent past.

They are happy that they have been able to have done so, AND hope that their example will motivate others to act similarly!!

Their most recent donation of $100.00 was in support of P24B at Avon Park, which just happens to have been the Club where Jerry first competed in a major tournament; he was drawn back on March 16^th 2015 because, as it happened, the tournament was being directed by the very same person who directed his very first tournament many years ago.  He shared with me that the gift was also in memory of his good friend Pete Rinehart.   

Jerry has also, twice made one hundred dollar donations in honor of his father reaching the wonderful age of 100!!

                                           A PRESIDENT RETIRES

     Southwest Coast District President Jerry Stannard is retiring early.  Having moved to Golf Lakes from the Central District within the last decade Jerry Stannard has accomplished much indeed.  He has not only campaigned for the establishment of the SW CD Hall of Fame, he has done most of the work as well.  The present museum is visible at Bradenton Shuffle Club and is seen by all who attend tournaments there.  It was President Jerry Stannard  who researched back a couple of decades to establish who had 200 SWCD points to be eligible for induction thereto; he inducted all who proved eligible; he helped Jo Miller and Ron Nurnberger put pictures on the wall; and he has collected a number of photos and artifacts and is still working to perfect the museum.

     Having cared for both his parents over 18 years of their declining health,  having played his heart out at as many tournaments as possible,  and having been recently hospitalized , likely largely due to stress, the Doctor says he should retire as District President to reduce stress.  He wisely agrees.  Jerry has recently shared with me the following memories for your enjoyment.

     “ I had the good fortune in in my second year of playing with the late, great Grant Boshart in March 2006 in the Fun N Sun Tournament at Clearwater for first place in the Main event against Earl Ball and Stan Williamson.  Earl, at the foot, had the hammer and the lead at 58-73.  Earl missed my deep 7: I covered the seven with two successive 10’s that Earl cleared. I put on another 10.  Earl thought a while, ignored my ten which hid my 7 and shot his hammer for the win, but the shuffleboard gods favored me as Earl hit the 7-8 line and we won 75-73.  What would you have done?”

     “I played twice more with Grant Boshart.  In 2007 we won the same tournament again, beating Earl and Stan in the quarter final (when Stan after a shot, stuck his cue straight up as usual, getting it broken in the overhead fan); and then beating Bill Bartrum and Ben Coy in the finals. In Grant’s very last tournament (at Golf Lakes in 2009), beating Ralph Lozano and Corky Lowe (now two of my best friends in my new park and district) in the semi-finals and Roy Babcock and Mel Erb in the Finals.  Grant and I played 3 tournaments together, losing only 2 games, both to Earl Ball and Stanley Williamson.  Yes, Grant Boshart was great and carried me, then little above average, through to victory.”
