John has made a request, maybe we can do as he asks. Keep in mind that John will eventually write a stand alone article, right John.
One of the “BEST” AM Tournaments within the Central District is in Woodbrook as is the newly formed TOC formulated by the FSA for ams recently and here in Zephyrhills at Forrest Lake Estates where that am tournament has now been played for many years. Within the CD folks such as David Earle, Glenn Monroe and Jennette Harvey play a vital role in helping with these am tournaments donating their precious time to help keep the am program flourishing! “ALL” of those who play shuffle board here in the state of Florida, especially the pros, should have a vested interest with our ams!!! It remains imperative that “ALL” of us who play the game encourage, help and teach those who are going to carry on the sport. If we do not assume that responsibility, shuffle board as we know it will simply fade away!!!!

John Houghtaling and Keith Morton win Sanlan Championship
John Houghtaling and Kieth Morton won the Central District Pro Draw Championship at Sanlan Ranch. It was Keith’s 1st Pro Championship and he was very excited, something I love to see, because it’s easy to forget what it was like in the beginning. Kieth played great; clearing any block that posed a threat and hiding unusually well when the opportunity presented itself. He’ll win many more and deserve every victory. His partner was John Houghtaling, one of Zephyrhills premium players, ever steady, smart about every situation and a great partner who is in the early stages of a great career.
It wasn’t easy as they had to win the 1st two matches on the last shot of the 3rd game, one by Keith and one by John, and the Championship match also went three games and was tight right down to the last two hammers.
HOUGHTALING & WALKER WIN DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP
John Houghtaling and Lyle Walker of the Zephy Shuffle Club, drew each other as Partners for the Central District Championship held at the Zephyrhills, Betmar Club, on February 23rd and they won the Championship. They lost one game in the tournament and that was in the semi-finals where they also trailed by 35 points in the deciding 3rd game but made a big come back to reach the finals where waiting were Jerry Collins, Zephyr Club, and Earl Ball, Betmar Club. The 1st game was anyone’s to win but John and Lyle won and finished things off winning the 2nd game too allowing Lyle to tie Jerry for the final “Masters” spot with one tournament left in the season.
