The Celebration Is Over! The Adventure Begins |
High River AB is HIT ONCE AGAIN!! by stanistheman Each of us will undoubtedly remember the terrible flood that wreaked havoc on High River AB about one year ago. In case you forget, enter the words High River into the search rectangle and hit search!! The “HIT” we are talking about this time is not from “Mother Nature”, but rather from their fellow citizens!! And you know what Shufflers; the hit from “fellow citizens” has been more devastating, more cruel, that inflicted by “Mother Nature”!! If their are valid reasons for the action by the Curling Club, we have not had access to same. Following the Flood there was optimism as is clearly indicated in the identified articles above!! Also check the FSA (Foothills Shuffleboard Assn.) website to see what they had planned in 2014. http://www.highriverfsa.ca/ Here is a message from Ken Wardley, received to-day, 2014 05 01: Ken was the former President of the FSA. Ken Reports on CAN-AM at GOLDEN VISTA 2016 12 02
Here at Golden Vista RV Resort we have 1075 lots, mostly made up of Americans sprinkled with a few Canadians. The park is about 30 years old and really the most friendly of all the parks here in the East Valley. [No smog in this area as we are far enough away from Phoenix]
We have been at this park for 13 years and have owned for 10 of those years.
Ultimately we started to become involved with Shuffleboard and was Tournament director for that first year. That was a job, but we got through it. We noticed that the numbers were starting to fall off, and it was suggested that we should go to Mixed format, consisting of one American and one Canadian. Obviously the Ladies were delighted because they always felt left out of the Doubles events.
When this happened immediately we noticed an increase in excitement and now the Men were scrambling to look for Cdn women and vice versa. So, the next year we increased our attendance and each year thereafter we have had wonderful support from everyone. As an example in 2010 we had 56 registrants in 2014 we had 74 entries or 144 people and this year and we have just completed our Can-Am tournament and we had 88 entries or 176 participants
Shuffleboard is alive and well in Arizona and we keep hoping that it will continue to increase
I will forward to you, pics of the winners etc, when we get them done
On a side note, we are working on our ISA logo and would love to have you forward some ideas for the 2018 event, which starts on July 15th thru 20th
