“McPherson Community Achiever Awards” 2013.
Hi Stan,
Thought you might like to hear of an Award given to Marj last month. Malcolm Crowder nominated Marj for the Award and this was granted at a ceremony on the 27th March, 2013.
The citation reads :-
“MARJORIE GOVETT
Marjorie has been a member of the Australian Shuffleboard Association for 14 years, during this time she has been President and a member of the management committee. Marjorie manages the shuffleboard play at Coolangatta and at Elanora. She has represented Australia at nine annual shuffleboard tournaments. In 2009 Marjorie was inducted into the International Shuffleboard Association’s Hall of Fame in Florida.”
The Awards were presented by Karen Andrews MP the Federal Member for McPherson (an electorate in the Australian Parliament) and in her introduction she said :-
” Australians and Gold Coasters have always had a reputation for being friendly community oriented people. These award recipients are shining examples of that community spirit, and I take pleasure in congratulating them for outstanding achievements and hard work.
Many of the recipients are hard working volunteers whilst others have been nominated through their professional capacity where they have gone above and beyond their job to help others.
As the Federal Member for McPherson I have had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful people who contribute enormously to our community and to hear their stories. I am always struck by how humble our community achievers are – they don’t expect any recognition or awards, they simply want to help others.
Today, it is my very great pleasure to publicly acknowledge the 2013 McPherson Community Achievers and to thank them for their contribution to the people of the Southern Gold Coast.”
The award consisted of a Medal and a Certificate under the crest of Australia.
We all at Shuffleboard were very pleased of this recognition and of this well deserved honor.
It is always a pleasure to be in the company of her!!! (And a tough competitor to boot!)
