Re: NSA Hall of Fame Nomination – Player Category
It is my honor and privilege to nominate Sylvia Smith for the National Shuffleboard Association Hall of Fame in the player category.
Sylvia is currently on the NSA Board of Directors as the Arizona State Delegate. She is also on the Arizona Shuffleboard Association Board of Directors and on ASA District I Executive Board.
Sylvia started her shuffleboard career in Arizona in 2004 and after returning to her home in Ohio discovered shuffleboard was active in that state as well. She entered and played in tournaments in both Arizona and Ohio. In 2008 and 2009 she was on the Ohio Shuffleboard Association list of “Role of Champions”. In Arizona, she has played in numerous tournaments each winter and placing in over 26 events. In 2014 she won the Bud Walrath National Singles Tournament earning her NSA pin. She has also played in numerous NSA Western Team Tournaments and California Shuffleboard Association (CSA/Soboba Classic) Team Tournaments. In addition, Sylvia was a member of the West Team in four of the five NSA East/West Challenges.
She has represented the NSA in the International Shuffleboard Association (ISA) World Team Championships in 2010 (Germany), 2012 (Seattle, WA), and 2014 (Midland, ON). She also played on the ISA United Nations Team in Australia. She also has promoted shuffleboard by playing in the Norwegian Open in Oslo, Norway in 2013 and in Norwich, England this past summer.
In the ISA World Singles Championships she has represented the NSA in 2011 in Dieppe, NB placing 2nd among all women. In 2013, she played in the ISA singles in St Petersburg, FL and placed 11th overall. The USA Women’s West Team that she was a member of received the Silver Medal at the ISA World Team Championships in Midland, Ontario, Canada in 2014.
Sylvia is very active in both the Arizona Shuffleboard Association and the ASA District I. She is past president of ASA District I as well as being a member of the Executive Committee and performing as the District’s Rules Director and has served as Tournament Director for district tournaments.
Based on all of the above, I believe Sylvia deserves to be a member of the prestigious NSA Hall of Fame.
