19 teams from all corners of Ohio (and beyond) convened in Akron for some weekend shuffling, the largest turnout of the season away from Lakeside. The entries were a who’s who of the OSSA. With only 3 more tournaments on the calendar, some players are chasing Roll of Champion points, some players are chasing end of season momentum, everyone is enjoying fun and fellowship.
Tim Baker arrived with a cooler full of freshly picked sweet corn from his Indiana farm to share with all!
The draw always seems to create interesting first round match-ups. The youngest team, college students Nicole Hoyer/Alyssa Colasanti, matched up against the oldest team, Mamie Morton/Bob Hoskins. Their ages may have been different, but all four scored 100 for joy and enthusiasm. Nicole and Alyssa won in three games, then extended two more hall of famers, Red Rudolph/Chris Cermak to three games before succumbing.
Marvin McConnell/Bob Jones, Jr. survived tight 3 game matches against Wilma Rudolph/Steve Lockard in the quarterfinals and Red Rudolph/Chris Cermak in the semis before prevailing against Bill Hoyer/Michael Hirsch in the finals. Dianna and Sam Allen won third place.
Special thanks is extended to Mamie and Bob and the Akron Club for hosting this tournament on short notice. The tournament was initially scheduled for Canton. Change of venue was necessary due to a parade in Canton.
